What the assessment measures

Verbal Relations

Extracting the relation between two words and transferring it to a new pair, reading a sentence's direction from its connector, spotting the word that contradicts a paragraph's context despite being grammatically sound, and telling synonymy from antonymy in precise terms.

Write the relation as an explicit sentence before looking at the options, fix the sentence's direction from its connector before reading alternatives, and summarize a paragraph's direction in one word, then look for what opposes it.

Reading Comprehension

Building meaning from a text you have not seen before: the main idea, the explicit detail, close inference, a paragraph's function within the whole, and separating what the writer said from what merely sounds true to you.

Identify the text's purpose and its intended reader before the questions, then return to the textual evidence for every option instead of relying on a first impression.

Arithmetic and Ratios

Operations on numbers and fractions, ratio and proportion and percentage with the correct base, rates covering speed and work, numeric patterns, and successive increase and decrease.

Before every percentage ask which value it is computed against, and in successive problems compute the intermediate value explicitly instead of adding or subtracting the rates.

Geometry and Measurement

Areas, perimeters, and volumes; triangle, polygon, and parallel-line angles; the Pythagorean theorem; similarity and its effect on area and volume; and converting between units of measure.

Write the formula before substituting, describe the figure in words and name what is asked — a length, an area, or a volume — and in similarity raise the ratio to the power that matches the dimension.

Data Analysis

Reading given data to extract mean, median, mode, and range; weighted averages; percentages against the right base; and simple and compound probability, distinguishing draws with replacement from those without.

Before any average ask how many units sit behind each number, and before any percentage name the reference group in words — most errors here are base errors, not computation errors.

Logical Deduction

Applying deductive and inductive rules: what follows necessarily from the premises, the difference between necessary and sufficient conditions, converse and contrapositive, and ordering from multiple constraints.

Separate an argument's validity from the truth of its premises, ask of every condition whether it is necessary or sufficient, and never accept a universal conclusion from a particular premise.

Spatial Reasoning

Tracking spatial relations from a verbal description: directions and rotations, paper folding and layer counts, the cube net and its opposite faces, counting hidden cubes, and net displacement versus path length.

Sketch the description on paper before solving, mark the direction of rotation with an explicit arrow, and in path problems net out north against south and east against west separately before combining.

Use the result responsibly
