What the assessment measures

Semantic Relations and Structures

Fixing a term's precise sense and telling it from near neighbours, transferring the relation between two words to a new pair, reading concession and causation markers in academic prose, and spotting the word that contradicts a paragraph's direction.

Define the term in your own sentence before accepting an option, fix the sentence's direction from its connector rather than its vocabulary, and read Arabic research abstracts, comparing your phrasing with the author's.

Reading Comprehension

Reading with the depth graduate study demands: separating the writer's claim from the evidence marshalled for it, the function of each paragraph in building the argument, the limits of what the writer actually asserted, and where the caveat sits.

State the text's claim in one sentence before the questions, then underline each piece of evidence and ask which part of the claim it supports, and watch the final paragraph, where most caveats live.

Arithmetic and Ratios

The basic mathematical concepts underpinning quantitative research work: percentage and its base, simple versus compound growth, rates, inverse proportion, and numeric patterns.

Before every percentage write down which value it is computed against, compute the intermediate value explicitly in successive changes, and practise working back from the result to the original, not only forward.

Geometry and Measurement

Areas, perimeters, volumes and their relations; angles in figures and between parallels; Pythagoras; the effect of similarity on area and volume; and moving between units without an order-of-magnitude error.

Write the formula before substituting and name what is asked — a length, an area, or a volume — and in similarity raise the ratio to the power matching the number of dimensions asked for.

Data Analysis

Measures of central tendency and dispersion and what each describes, weighted averages, reading a percentage against its correct reference group, and conditional and compound probability.

Before every average ask how many units sit behind each figure; before every percentage name the reference group exactly; and in probability separate an and-event from an or-event before multiplying or adding.

Critical Thinking

Testing assumptions and ideas and forming judgements: exposing what an argument silently rests on, telling what strengthens it from what weakens it, weighing evidence by sample size and selection method, and separating correlation from causation.

Read a study abstract and ask three questions before believing its finding: what does it silently rest on, what single fact would overturn it, and who never entered the sample at all?

Logic

Valid forms of inference: what follows necessarily from the premises, converse and contrapositive, necessary versus sufficient conditions, exclusive disjunction, and ordering elements from multiple constraints.

Separate an argument's validity from the truth of its premises, ask of every condition whether it is necessary or sufficient, and never accept a universal conclusion from a premise beginning with 'some'.

Figures

Inferring the links between one figure and another and visualizing in space: directions and compound rotations, folding layers, a cube's opposite faces, counting hidden units, and net displacement versus path length.

Sketch every description on paper before solving, mark the rotation direction with an explicit arrow, and in path problems net out north against south and east against west separately before combining.

Foundation Needs Strengthening

Years away from this kind of question have left their mark: the item types look familiar while their rules do not. This is a common starting point for graduates and says nothing about your standing in your own field.

Developing Knowledge Readiness

The rules have come back to you in familiar cases, and wavering appears when the context shifts or the alternatives converge. This band responds faster than any other to a short, structured review.

Strong Knowledge Readiness

Your answers show consistent knowledge of the five item families and their solving rules. What remains is not new building but consolidation on compound cases and at a steady pace.

Use the result responsibly

  • Produces no aptitude score or percentage and predicts neither.
