IELTS Academic Readiness Indicator

Assess your knowledge readiness for the IELTS Academic format and task types, then identify your review priorities before moving to practical training and official-style practice.

This indicator assesses your knowledge readiness for the IELTS Academic format and task types. It is not an official IELTS test and does not produce a Band Score. Unless an attempt includes real audio, assessed free writing, and evaluated spoken responses, it does not measure listening, writing, or speaking performance in the same way as the official test.

What the assessment measures

Listening Task Readiness

Knowledge of how to handle detail, purpose, signposting, paraphrase, and distractors in listening tasks; these text questions do not measure listening performance without real audio.

Review the official task formats related to Listening Task Readiness, complete focused knowledge practice, then verify actual performance with a real-audio listening sample under task conditions, then classify detail, distractor, and spelling errors.

Reading Task Readiness

Knowledge of the decision rules for main ideas, evidence, writer views, contradiction versus absence, and heading-paragraph fit. The current bank has no independent extended passages, so it does not claim to measure full reading comprehension.

Review the official task formats related to Reading Task Readiness, complete focused knowledge practice, then verify actual performance with a complete Academic Reading passage under time, recording the evidence location, word limit, and cause of each error.

Writing Task Requirements

Knowledge of Task 1 and Task 2 requirements and the principles of overview, argument, cohesion, support, and language control; the questions do not measure the user's writing quality because no free response is produced or assessed.

Review the official task formats related to Writing Task Requirements, complete focused knowledge practice, then the attempt indicates a need to review writing-task requirements. Verify actual performance by producing a complete response and having it reviewed against Task Achievement, Coherence and Cohesion, Lexical Resource, and Grammatical Range and Accuracy.

Speaking Task Requirements

Knowledge of the three parts and the principles of answer development, fluency, coherence, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation; the questions do not measure fluency or pronunciation because no spoken response is recorded or evaluated.

Review the official task formats related to Speaking Task Requirements, complete focused knowledge practice, then verify actual performance by recording spoken responses across the three parts and obtaining feedback on fluency, coherence, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation clarity.

How to read the result

Foundation Needs Strengthening

You recognize some IELTS Academic formats, but your knowledge of the decision rules for its task types is not yet stable.

Developing Knowledge Readiness

You understand the format and know useful strategies, but applying the decision rules becomes less consistent with paraphrase or task complexity.

Strong Knowledge Readiness

Your answers demonstrate a consistent understanding of the IELTS Academic format and task types. You are ready to move to practical verification through real listening practice, timed reading, rubric-based writing feedback, and speaking practice with feedback. This result is not a Band Score and does not guarantee an official test outcome.

Use the result responsibly

  • Assesses knowledge of the IELTS Academic format and task types, not complete four-skill performance.
  • Contains no real audio, assessed free writing, or evaluated spoken response, so it does not measure listening, writing, or speaking in the official format.
  • Does not produce a Band Score, official outcome prediction, or receiving-organization decision.

Academic or General Training?

This indicator covers the Academic module, taken for university study and professional registration. If your goal is migration, work, or training, the module you need is General Training: its reading section is entirely different (everyday and workplace texts instead of academic ones) and Writing Task 1 is a letter rather than a chart description. Listening and Speaking are identical across both. Start from the IELTS General Training readiness indicator, or read the section-by-section comparison of the two modules. Neither indicator awards a Band Score or predicts one.
